Stop Your Inner Thanos!

“I stink – you stink – we all stink at BALANCE!”

It’s true; we’re all prone to being ‘unbalanced’, but it seems to me that everyone is in a race to find “balance.” It’s not just Asian themed cartoons and Avenger Villains who seek to restore balance…it’s about moms, dads, and ESPECIALLY homeschoolers who seek to do the same thing.

We read the posts, implement strategies…and then feel miserable for failing to achieve it. Being the realist I am, I’m thinking that balance isn’t something that can be achieved.

And if I’m right (which I so often am…just ask my wife) then the important thing is to make sure you’re ‘unbalanced’ in the right direction…or the one that will cause the least amount of problems.

For busy husbands and dads, I would say that if you’re going to be unbalanced … make sure you’re unbalanced towards family. If you have to drop a ball in the great juggling act…you should drop it in the work/career department. Like you, I’ve met plenty of men who have been unbalanced towards WORK and have regretted it later. I have NEVER met a dad who was unbalanced toward family and then later regretted it.

Now…for homeschooling moms I’d say to make sure you’re unbalanced towards the relationship with your children. If you have to fall short, fall short in what you teach them NOT in how much you enjoy them.

It’s easy for a child to make up in the information category, but it’s almost IMPOSSIBLE for them to make up in the relationship department.

For some of you, that will be reassuring; for others of you, let that be a warning…and encouragement to ADJUST your schedule, your goals, and your homeschool day!!

So stop your inner Thanos and go ahead and be unbalanced, just make sure you’re unbalanced in the best direction.

It WILL make you smile,

PS – Actually, what I just wrote isn’t being unbalanced…it’s the way God intended life to be lived.
